Gnocchi with Fruit

Fruit can give a savory gnocchi dish a sweet accent, a burst of acidity, or a juicy bite. It does not need to turn the whole meal into dessert.

Sweetness beside something salty

Pears make Gorgonzola's sharpness especially noticeable. Roasted grapes bring juicy sweetness against whipped feta, and golden raisins offer smaller sweet bites beside sardines and fennel. In each case, the salty ingredient keeps the pairing grounded in a savory meal.

Fruit can change the texture

Fresh orange segments and sliced apples give warm gnocchi salads a cool, juicy contrast. Grilled peaches are softer and more rounded in flavor. A fruit glaze has another role entirely, spreading sweetness and acidity over browned chicken instead of leaving separate pieces in the bowl.

When the plate really is sweet

Cinnamon, sugar, and creamy accompaniments give apple cider donut gnocchi and strawberry pretzel ricotta gnocchi a dessert-like character. The fruit belongs to that whole combination; its presence alone is not what makes a gnocchi dish sweet.
