Truffle Mushroom Gnocchi

Truffle flavor makes this a more aromatic mushroom dish. The version here uses truffle oil, while button mushrooms provide the texture and substance around the gnocchi.

An accent rather than the whole sauce

The mushrooms still matter. Their pieces give the dish something to bite into, while the truffle note is most noticeable in the aroma. Cream and potato gnocchi provide a mild background for both.

Why the crisp topping belongs

Soft gnocchi and creamy mushrooms share a lot of tenderness. Garlic panko provides a dry, crisp contrast, so the plate has more than one texture. That makes a difference in a rich sauce: the topping is part of the appeal of the dish, not simply a decoration on an otherwise finished bowl.
